Yes.... $2.63 is the going rate for a waitress in a busy restuarant. And legally, tips and wages combined, you have make the state minimum wage. It's a good job to have, if you have the right personality.

Because so many people used to and still don't disclose the proper amount of their tips on their tax returns. So their wage is lower because they take their tips into consideration. You make up the difference in how well you do your job. Treat your customers with courtsey, kindness, be plesant and hospitible and your customers will want to tip you. I tip according to the level of service but at least 10%. I have only tipped 5% once and thats when the waitress was a shrew and yelled at me because my food was cold because she left it in the food window too long.

I live in Boston also and work as a waitress part time and your right!! They will never pay us a salary that is comfortable. It's the same as being a bartender or even a host at a restaurant cuz the restaurant thinks that the host will be handed money for seating people in better places!!

Let's start a petition and see where it goes!!

Because they expect that the difference will be made in tips. My sister gets paid about $2.50 an hour, but makes at least another $5-15 an hour on tips.

when i waitressed i was paid two fifteen an hour, but I worked at an upscale restraunt, so with my tips included, I was paid well above the min. wage. Some other places, like these hole in the wall restraunts where I live (KY), get paid 2 something an hour and if they have to rely on tips, their basically screwed.

I imagine that it would totally depend on what city you are working in as to whether or not this hourly rate would be worth it.

If you live in a city where there is a high volume of customers, or work in a restaurant where customers are known to leave large tips, then this pay rate would seem acceptable.

If you are working in a not so populated area, then obviously it wouldn't be in your best interest to work there. My advice would be to ask someone who works in the field in the city in which you are seeking employment. They would be able to tell you how well that hourly rate of pay works for them.

Yes, if you are good you will make it up in tip. I think you can average around $8-10 an hour.

It probably depends alot on what type of establishment it is. Usually they pay more than that, depending on where you are as well. They can make alot of money in tips...thats where the bulk of thier income is....thats why I would assume that the employer doesn't pay them much. Because Everyone else does.
